The best MacBook Air cases:
Editor's note: We'll be updating this list of the best MacBook Air cases regularly as new options launch.
Supcase Unicorn Beetle
If you've seen any of our lists of the best cases, then the Unicorn Beetle should be a familiar name. It's an excellent rugged option for phones, and it brings the same durability to the MacBook Air. The Unicorn Beetle relies on a shock-absorbing TPU bumper to guard the edges while a polycarbonate shell stops scrapes and scratches in their tracks. You can grab the Unicorn Beetle in blue or black for the 2018 or 2020 MacBook Air.
Speck Smartshell
Up next is another familiar case maker — Speck. Its Smartshell is a tough and transparent polycarbonate offering that comes in a variety of colors. Speck paid incredible attention to detail with its colors, too, as each one is reminiscent of the classic iMac G3 shells. It's a tough and ready case as well, Speck claims that the Smartshell can withstand up to 34 pounds of pressure. Unfortunately, it will only fit on the 2018 MacBook Air.
Fintie MacBook Air case
Laptop cases have to tackle one massive challenge that you won't find with phone cases — fans. The MacBook Air is no exception, and you need a case that's ready to handle the heat. Fintie's snap-on hardshell is fully ventilated to help you stay cool under pressure. Available in four sleek shades, the Fintie case provides ample protection and adds just millimeters to the top and bottom of your laptop. The case should fit the 2018, 2019, and 2020 MacBook Air releases.
ProCase MacBook Air case
You might be looking at a stand to round out your setup, but why not find a case that does both? That's exactly what the ProCase offers, thanks to a pair of folding legs and a fully ventilated bottom panel. In addition to better airflow, the raised angle makes for a more natural typing experience that doesn't hurt your wrists. The ProCase is available in a mix of colors, and the hybrid design should stand up to both drops and scratches.
Mosiso retro book cover
While the last few options have been durable snap-on cases, this Mosiso book cover is the perfect way to add a touch of sophistication to your MacBook Air. It's crafted from full-grain leather, and the flexible design works as either a case or a sleeve. As a result, the Mosiso book case is the perfect way to feel like you're carrying a priceless book rather than your trusty laptop. You can get yours in brown, Deep Teal, or Wine Red.
AmazonBasics sleeve
There are more MacBook Air cases on the market than you can probably count, but you don't always need the toughest option. If you want a soft, simple sleeve that's easy to use, it's tough to top AmazonBasics. The sleeve isn't designed to do anything fancy, but it'll protect your machine from gentle drops. Available in black, gray, blue, navy, and purple, you can get AmazonBasics' sleeves in several convenient sizes.
FYY leather sleeve
Yet another familiar name, FYY offers some of our favorite wallet cases for most phones. Its leather laptop sleeve is an incredibly flexible option, packed with pockets and storage options. It's more like a briefcase with the space to secure important papers, business cards, and so much more. You can grab the FYY sleeve in various colors and patterns, and there are a few canvas options as well.
InCase Slim sleeve
One last sleeve to consider is this slim, business-ready option from InCase. It's made of woven polyester for a lightweight design with the strength of ballistic nylon. In addition, the InCase sleeve is lined with a soft faux fur that should insulate your MacBook Air against drops, while the durable zipper locks your laptop safely inside. You can choose from Graphite or Heather Navy, and the sleeve is designed to fit all of the latest MacBook Air models.
Tech21 case
Although Apple doesn't offer first-party cases or sleeves for the MacBook Air, it does offer this clear option from Tech21 straight from the Apple Store. The case itself is a fairly basic hybrid option, with a flexible bumper around the edges and solid polycarbonate plates on the top and bottom. Tech21's case is supposed to resist UV yellowing, and the low-profile non-slip feet should keep your laptop locked in place.
dbrand MacBook Air skins
If you really don't want to add any bulk to your MacBook Air, but you still want to minimize the appearance of scratches, a skin from dbrand is the way to go. Of course, it won't do anything against drops, but a dbrand skin is a great way to add a bit of texture to your laptop. You can take your pick of 21 different patterns and mix and match different pieces like the trackpad, palm rest, and even the bottom of your machine. Make sure to hit the correct button below as each generation has slightly different skins.
